About Coastal Custom Woodworks
A family-owned woodworking studio in Babylon, NY. Every piece we build is designed with care and intention — crafted to last for generations and become part of your family's story.
The Craftsman
Meet Michael Palmer
Coastal Custom Woodworks was founded by Michael Palmer, a lifelong builder and full-time Woodshop Teacher at Freeport High School with over 10 years in the classroom.
What drives our team is a shared passion for building things that matter. For us, woodworking is more than a craft — it's a way to create meaningful, lasting designs that tell a story.
What started as a deep love for working with wood grew into Coastal Custom Woodworks — a small, dedicated team operating out of our studio in the Village of Babylon, NY. Today, we serve homeowners, restaurants, breweries, and businesses across Long Island and beyond, building everything from heirloom dining tables to personalized cutting boards.
Our work has been featured in local Long Island businesses including Long Beach Brewing Company and West End Cafe Bar, where our custom tap handles are part of the everyday experience for patrons.
We also partner with interior designers and architects on custom furniture projects. If you are a design professional, check out our trade program for preferred pricing and priority scheduling.

Our Process
How We Work
Consultation
Every project starts with a conversation. We discuss your vision, space, wood preferences, timeline, and budget. Whether you have a detailed sketch or a vague idea, we will help you refine it into a buildable plan.
Design & Material Selection
We source the perfect wood for your project and finalize the design details: dimensions, joinery, edge profiles, and finish. You approve the plan before we make a single cut.
Craftsmanship
Your piece is built by hand in our Long Island workshop. We combine traditional woodworking techniques with precision CNC work for logos, text, and intricate patterns. We take progress photos so you can follow along.
Finishing
Every piece receives a premium finish tailored to its use. Food-safe finishes for cutting boards and countertops, durable polyurethane or lacquer for furniture, and specialty coatings for outdoor or high-traffic pieces.
Delivery & Installation
Small items are carefully packaged and delivered or shipped. Large pieces like countertops and tables are delivered and professionally installed. We make sure everything is perfect before we leave.
